The Dangerous Summer
The Morning Of, The City Walk, Crowd of Voices & TBA
06:00 PM / $10 or $12 Day Of. / All Ages Welcome
“You are my song, and you are where I want to be.” Straightforward, earnest rock music seems to be a contradiction from the path popular music has strayed as of late. The need for genuine lyrics, purposeful direction and accessible melodies has been long overdue. The Dangerous Summer have crafted a throwback to the days when music was charged with hope and contained a much-needed brand of sincerity. This foursome from Ellicott City, MD, have poured every drop of honesty and thoughtfulness into Reach For The Sun, a polished and wise debut brimming with a poise that belies the band’s years. Taking their name from an Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name, it seems every move toward success has been calculated from the start. Come see this amazing act along w/ The MOrning Of and Locals TBA soon:) Doors at 6PM tickets only $10 in advance.

All ages are welcome. Tickets are $16.50 at the door, and doors will open at 630pm. Tickets will be available starting Thursday, May 27 at 1pm at FusionShows.com, the Mixtape box office, and Vertigo Music. ABOUT NEW FOUND GLORY: New found energy, new found purpose: that's what Not Without A Fight is all about. The first New Found Glory album to bear the Epitaph logo brims with fresh promise, showcasing a band comfortable in their own skin and eager to get back to basics and present it all to the world. Not Without A Fight is arguably the strongest addition to an impressive catalog with no less than three gold records and some of the most memorable songs of the past decade. Album opener "Right Where We Left Off" is an instant reminder of the keen self-awareness that endeared New Found Glory to millions of fans worldwide in the first place. And naming their album Not Without A Fight? That's a nod to that other side of the group Epitaph owner Brett Gurewitz called "the greatest pop-punk band in history," the side that is scrappy, that's from the do-it-yourself scene. The side of a band who probably never should have been lumped in with some of the more teeny-bop friendly fare they've often shared the rock radio and TRL charts with. Lead single "Listen to Your Friends" flips the script by rocking a verse even catchier than its chorus; "I'll Never Love Again" boasts a killer singalong. "47" has a hooky scream that breaks new ground for the Florida-bred five-some while "Truck Stop Blues" summons the potent urgency of the burgeoning scene that New Found Glory arose from, recalling a bygone era when they shared small stages with their friends in Get Up Kids, Piebald and Saves The Day. Not Without A Fight packs together the best elements of fan favorite albums like Sticks and Stones (2002) and Catalyst (2004) with a reinvigorated drive making for a declaration that's fresh and timely. There's pop, there's punk, there's crunch, there's those irrepressible melodies and Jordan Pundik's instantly recognizable voice is in fine form. "Nobody in New Found Glory loves anything as much as this band," says guitarist Chad Gilbert, by way of explanation as to how they have managed to maintain the same lineup - Pundik, Gilbert, Steven Klein (guitar), Ian Grushka (bass) and Cyrus Bolooki (drums) - for over ten years. "You fight with your mom. You don't hang out with her all the time. But you love her! You're never going to hate her. We're family. It might sound cliche, but that's what it is." That family first came together in Coral Springs, Florida in 1997. Nothing Gold Can Stay (1999) and New Found Glory (2000) became classics thanks to hard-touring and good natured relationship building the world over, which ensured the next two albums (Sticks and Stones and Catalyst) would both debut in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. As happens all too often, the uber-successful and beloved band found themselves delivering Coming Home to a group of relative strangers who lacked the same investment in them as before. By 2006, many of the folks who worked with the band at the label had been replaced by new faces, from the president on down. "At major labels, people are always losing their jobs," Gilbert points out. "Someone can love your band one week and the next week that person is fired." With their recording contract fulfilled and in between management, New Found Glory seized the opportunity to have some fun while weighing their options, releasing From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II (something their most ardent supporters had demanded for years) and a split EP with their alter-ego, International Superheroes Of Hardcore. "It brought this different attention to our band that we hadn't had in a while," Gilbert says. "Through the major label years, some of those lines got blurred because of some of the things the label did representing our band. With the release on Bridge 9 Records, we were able to do things how we wanted to do them. It was awesome." In the midst of all of this, the band continued to write their next album, which they ultimately decided to record before choosing a new label. That's where +44 / Blink 182's Mark Hoppus came in, agreeing to produce Not Without A Fight at the studio he co-owns with Travis Barker. "He's an old friend of ours," Gilbert explains. "We had no money to make the record so we wanted someone with the confidence to do the album for free and get reimbursed later." Eventually, of course, the label situation needed sorted out, as the guys in New Found Glory have no desire to be in any kind of "business" other than than business of writing great songs, recording them and playing them live. "When we announced that we were no longer signed to Geffen two years ago, Brett Gurewitz was the first one to call me," Gilbert remembers. "'People at Epitaph are all music fans and have their shit together." And as for that spectacular accolade from the man running their new record label home? "It's crazy!" Chad says, laughing. "The Descendents could take that crown way before we could, or Screeching Weasel, or Green Day. I don't know why he said that! He's crazy. It's flattering. It's really flattering. But I don't know what to say!" New Found Glory's first Epitaph album has no guest appearances, no frills, nothing but fantastic songs and powerful performances. "If you really listen to our music, you can't pigeonhole it. We play music that we love." Not Without A Fight is alternately the band's most streamlined and direct but powerful and broad album thus far. "New Found Glory is back to where we want it to be: we tour, we play music and it's from the heart." Fusion Shows Present: The Bigger Lights
The Graduate, You Me and Everyone We Know, Weatherstar & TBA
06:30 PM / $10 / $12 Day Of / All Ages Welcome
The Bigger Lights have one rule and one rule only – the music always comes first. To them, it’s simple. You can send an artist to make a record with the hottest, most expensive producer on the market. You can dress them in the most fashionable clothes and give them the edgiest haircuts money can buy. You can market them on every website, every magazine, every radio station, and every television outlet at your disposal. But all else equal, there will never be a better sales pitch for any artist at the end of the day than having great songs and The Bigger Lights are a band committed practicing what they preach. With the 2010 release of their debut full length record on Doghouse Records, simply titled “The Bigger Lights,” one of pop music’s best kept secrets is arguably about to get the chance to begin preaching their message to a much larger audience. Of course, this wasn’t an overnight revelation. It took two and half years of pursuing music full-time for The Bigger Lights to realize that one of the hardest parts of being career musicians is learning how to always put the music first. “It’s funny how when you start playing music, it’s easy to keep the focus in the right places since you’re only really doing it for yourself,” observes lead singer Topher Talley. “But the deeper you get into the business of being a band, the more pressure you start to feel when you look around at what general trends people seem to be reacting to, and that can a dangerous game.” After forming in the summer of 2007 in Fairfax, Virginia, the band was quickly picked up by Absolute Management [All Time Low, Every Avenue, The Friday Nights Boys] and Doghouse Records/Warner Music Group [The All-American Rejects, The Get Up Kids, Say Anything] within their first year as a band. “When we made our first EP [Fiction Fever, 2008] for the label, we were still such a new band that we sort of self-imposed this vision of what we wanted to make based on what we thought a new band in our position had to do on their first record to grab people’s attention,” continues Talley. “We’re all proud of Fiction Fever for what it was when we made it, but none of us feel like it was the product of a group that had really figured out what it wanted be.” The result was a six-song rush of sugary, adrenaline laced pop-punk energy, perfect for a quick summertime pick-me-up. But in their hearts, group cofounders Talley, John Kendall Royston (guitar, piano, vocals), and Dan Mineart (bass, vocals) knew that they had to learn to embrace their own identity as songwriters and musicians rather than following suit with those around them if they wanted to create something more meaningful. Entering the spring of 2009, The Bigger Lights began to do exactly that. After the departure of two of the band’s original members and five months of touring on acoustic remixes of tracks on Fiction Fever with bands such as Never Shout Never and The Honorary Title, the band finally completed it’s lineup with Ryan Seaman (drums) and Chris McPeters (guitar, vocals), both seasoned veterans of touring and songwriting. “All of a sudden, our band started to feel like the family it was always intended to be,” Talley says. “Chris and Ryan brought us a new level of confidence. We started playing better because we were having more fun and ultimately, I think that new found confidence is what gave us the guts to start lifting the musical restrictions we had been putting on ourselves.” The band proceeded to spend the summer writing songs as a newly completed quintet while on the road playing Bamboozle and touring with the likes of Hey Monday, This Providence, and The Secret Handshake before entering the studio to record with hometown producer and friend Paul Barber [My Favorite Highway, Steve Moakler]. The band’s self-discovery through confidence is clear and present on 2010’s self-titled full length. “We wanted to self title the record because we felt like this was the first batch of songs that really represented where the band is headed,” explains Talley. “The Bigger Lights” is a collection of radio ready pop-rock anthems, each with distinguishably diverse influences filling its own unique place on the album. “We realized that all of our favorite bands – bands like Queen, Aerosmith, Coldplay, or The All-American Rejects – they’ve all become our favorite bands precisely because they’ve made records that felt like real albums. They weren’t afraid to take chances or make art that was honest to who they are as people and artists,” Talley explains. With a brand new record in hand and lessons learned in tow, The Bigger Lights are entering 2010 with a newly rejuvenated sense of hope and excitement and an even firmer dedication to their “music first, business second” mantra. “We completely understand the importance of all the pieces of the package being there. We get that things like marketing and image are important, but at the center of things like that will always be music itself, and we believe that great records will always come from putting everything else aside in the spirit of writing the best, most honest songs you’re capable of writing,” Talley says. “Those are the kind of records we want to make. That’s the kind of band we want to be.”

Brendan James
Local singer songwriters needed
06:30 PM / $8 / $10 Day Of. / All Ages Welcome
James Brendan, a singer-songwriter who accompanies himself on piano, James began writing the songs on his second album after winding up a year and a half on the road in support of his debut album The Day is Brave, which was released by Decca Records in June 2008 and debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Several of its songs were featured on various television shows including Private Practice, Bones, So You Think You Can Dance, and Army Wives. After releasing the album, James hit the ground running to support it from coast to coast. “I went to 40 states, ate at 330 restaurants, stayed in 210 hotels, and slept on one boat — John Mayer’s Mayercraft Cruise; I know because I wrote it all down,” James says with a laugh. The 18-month tour enabled James (whom Entertainment Weekly has called “a songwriter on the rise”) to build his fanbase the way many successful musicians have done before him: one room at a time, and he shares the fruits of that journey — renewed vigor, musical maturity, and even a new sound. Though they’ve pushed the envelope in terms of tempo and production, James and his producer Warren Huart (Augustana, The Fray, Howie Day) have emerged with an album that keeps the spotlight on James’ emotionally resonant voice and expressive piano playing. Catch this amazingly talented musician for 1 night only before he's playing the arenas. Doors @ 6:30 $8/10 Day Of. Tickets available online and at Vertigo Music.
